Black Tie America
from the Director, Johnny Brewer
This coming November, opening on Veterans Day for a five-day run, I will have the privilege of producing and directing an “America 250 Edition” of my choral revue, Black Tie America.
But I cannot do this without the support of interested folks like you.
If you can sing America the Beautiful, Amazing Grace, or The Star-Spangled Banner, then I need you.
I am seeking a 100-voice choir that will raise the roof of the Dot Moore Theatre in a powerful celebration of America’s 250th birthday. Our opening night, on Veterans Day, will be especially meaningful as we honor all who have served, recognizing their dedication and sacrifice, regardless of where or how they served.
On Independence Day, July 4, 2026, America marks its 250th birthday, the Semiquincentennial of the Declaration of Independence. This production is our opportunity to reflect, remember, and celebrate that milestone through music and storytelling.
I invite you to be a part of it.
There will be opportunities for beautiful solos, small ensembles, and narration, all designed to inspire, uplift, and strengthen our shared sense of patriotism.
As in past years, we will host a Black Tie America Preview Workshop and Sing Thru. This is simply a gathering to listen, learn, and sing through selections from the show. It is not an audition, and it is not a commitment. It is a chance to experience the music and enjoy an evening of singing together.
The Preview Workshop and Sing Thru will take place in Reception Room #1 at the Whole Backstage Playhouse. Dates are Sunday, August 2 at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 3 at 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, August 4 at 6:30 p.m.
The primary focus of this production is the full choral ensemble, unified in sound and purpose.
