The Whole Backstage began planning the renovation of The Old Rock
School in Guntersville, Alabama over three years ago. After classes were
discontinued at the school in 1979, the building became home to our community
theater. After 20 years of patching up and bandaging over the building is in
need of a major renovation. Our vision is to transform The Old Rock School into
a permanent home with a modern performance space while preserving the
distinctive architecture and feel of the original elementary school.
The total renovation has been broken
into phases to be completed as funds are available. We began Phase I in Spring
2004 which will enlarge the auditorium, build a new, larger stage and stage
support area, and improve critical public areas. A $500,000 capital campaign is
being planned to provide additional funding for Phase I.
