Gabe Belyeu

Gabe is an Albertville, Alabama Native and 2000 graduate of Birmingham Southern College, where he majored in musical theater and minored in dance. Performing has been in his blood for almost as long as he can remember. His first performance came when he was just a youngster. At the urging of friends and family, he tried out for and earned the role of Jonah in the First United Methodist Church's production of " Oh, Jonah." They had to coax him into auditioning, but he remembers that play as one of the factors which first encouraged him to do what he is doing today. After being bitten by the acting bug, Belyeu discovered he had the desire to take part in more productions. His thirst for the theater was quenched thanks to his discovery of the Whole Backstage in Guntersville. He earned many roles in their productions, the first of which was "Man of LaMancha." After that, he went on to take part in just about every summer show at the WBS until he moved away to college. While with the WBS he earned roles such as the Tin Man in "The Wizard of Oz " and his first lead in "The Robber Bridegroom" which inspired him to pursue acting as a career. "That was my first true lead. Working at the Whole Backstage is when I knew that this is what I wanted to do" he said. During high school he honed his skills with membership in the school's show choir and band, singing in the church youth choir and  musicals, being in the puppet troupe at his church, and taking dance lessons from Studio B.  All of these activities paid off once he started his professional career, as he has played musical instruments, directed plays, performed puppets, been dance captain, and acted, sung and danced his way across America. For students who think they might be interested in a career in the theater, Belyeu advises them to be involved in as many different programs as possible, and continue training throughout your life.  Gabe says he'll never stop taking voice, dance and acting lessons.  He also recommends attending college for more formal training in musical theater. After his third season with Birmingham Summerfest, he joined the national tour of Show Boat. Since then, Gabe has been a part of two seasons at the Mac-Haydn Theatre and Birmingham Children's Theatre's 2001-02 season. Gabe then toured with the national company of "Cinderella" and performed with the Broadway Theatre in Ft. Lauderdale.  He is currently touring with the national company of "Oliver." He lives in Ft. Lauderdale, performing in regional theatre, when he is not on the road  with national touring companies.  He has been offered an upcoming tour in Germany reprising his role in "Forever Plaid." Thanks to his family, friends and teachers for their love and encouragement.
