"Babes in Toyland" a Christmas Musical for young and old alike, will be the holiday production of the Whole Backstage. The play will be directed by Debbie Moss.

"This is the first show for young people that we have done in three years. This show will be one starring young people from ages eight to twenty, with five adult roles. And, as important, this show is one to share with the whole family, introducing more young people to live theater".

The play begins with Mother Goose characters, including Jack & Jill, Boy Blue, Bo-Peep, Bobby Shaftoe, Miss Muffett, Simple Simon and others, preparing for Christmas at the Toy Shop. There the rivalry between the handsome young Alan and his miserly, mean-hearted Uncle Barnaby for the love of Mistress Mary Quite Contrary. Uncle Barnaby is plotting to "get rid" of his teen-aged nephew, Alan, and his sister Jane, so that he will be sole owner of the toy factory.

Barnaby's inept henchmen, Gonzorgo, the hard-hearted one, and Roderigo, a sentimental ruffian are sent to accomplice the disappearance of the siblings. However, Roderigo, has a change of heart and helps Alan, Jane, and Tom-Tom ( who's in love with Jane) escape, only to encounter danger and magic on their journey home for Christmas.

The March of the Wooden Soldiers, and the "living" toys will prove entertaining for all.
