a Christmas Musical for
young and old alike, will be the holiday production of the Whole Backstage.
The play will be directed by Debbie Moss.
"This is the first show for young people that we have done in three
years. This show will be one starring young people from ages eight to
twenty, with five adult roles. And, as important, this show is one to share
with the whole family, introducing more young people to live theater".
The play begins with Mother Goose characters, including Jack & Jill, Boy
Blue, Bo-Peep, Bobby Shaftoe, Miss Muffett, Simple Simon and others,
preparing for Christmas at the Toy Shop. There the rivalry between the
handsome young Alan and his miserly, mean-hearted Uncle Barnaby for the love
of Mistress Mary Quite Contrary. Uncle Barnaby is plotting to "get rid" of
his teen-aged nephew, Alan, and his sister Jane, so that he will be sole
owner of the toy factory.
Barnaby's inept henchmen, Gonzorgo, the hard-hearted one, and Roderigo, a
sentimental ruffian are sent to accomplice the disappearance of the
siblings. However, Roderigo, has a change of heart and helps Alan, Jane, and
Tom-Tom ( who's in love with Jane) escape, only to encounter danger and
magic on their journey home for Christmas.
The March of the Wooden Soldiers, and the "living" toys will prove
entertaining for all.
